One more sleep

One more sleep and we are on our way!  About 12 months ago random conversation over coffee after golf, led to what we think will be a real adventure - walking Hadrian's Wall from east to west. Months of discussion, planning, correspondence, and conditioning for the walk, will come to fruition on June 2. 9 women aged from 63 to 70 plus, only 3 of whom have done any longer distance walking, will start walking from Newcastle on Tyne and 9 days and 10 sleeps later will arrive at Bowness on Solway on the west coast.  We are excited, apprehensive (terrified might be a better word) and very, very determined to savour every moment, embrace the challenges and come back stronger, fitter and ready for more adventures.

Preparing for the trip we have played heaps of golf and walked the lakes and hills around Canberra and Namadgi National Park, gradually building up our fitness and abilities to walk longer distances and to walk consecutive days, breaking in new boots and backpacks and getting accustomed to walking poles ( some of us have bought our first walking boots etc)  as well as carrying a backpack with all we'll need for the day. Our suitcases will be transported to each night's accommodation. All we have to do is walk carrying a daypack - distances will vary from about 10k to 18 k and we are having a rest day to explore where there is a concentration of Roman ruins.   We'll try to keep you posted - but whatever happens WE ARE READY!

Cheers,  Lesley.
