Hello all - it is the night before the start of the "big walk". We are having a fantastic time and already have many highlights!  Saturday we walked along the seafront from Whitley Bay to Tynemouth - an area once a hive of activity of seaside per suits however now sadly very neglected and tired.  We caught the Metro to Newburn and walked up to Heddon to the Wall - past the most glorious golf course (only two people playing on velvet fairways).  A long pull up to Heddon but oh what views.  Saw The Wall for the first time.  Weather was great and met many interesting people on the way.

Sunday we separated into two groups - Di and Lesley M took the bus back toHeddon and walked to Corbridge.  The countryside is so different to occurs -fields of white sheep shedding their wool leaving scraps around the paddocks, past Highland cattle, tiny hamlets of grey stone, cottage gardens, velvet lawns and over many, many stiles, and dozens of kissing gates.  Our feet held up and we felt excited by everything we saw but glad to get to Corbridge 18kv after we left Heddon.  The roast at The Angel Inn was wonderful.

The rest of the group explored the mouth of the Tyne, had a ferry ride across to the other side, discovered the castle, had a posh lunch at Brown's and we're very happy with the day.

Today we travelled to Corbridge and explored this former Roman town full of stone buildings, a town square and many tea shops, books shops and artisan food stores.  lovely!  We are now enjoying dinner at the Wheatsheaf and comparing notes.  Tric, Trish, Lesley J and Joanne had a lovely experience at The oldest Anglo Saxon church in England and we all walked around the heritage walk along the river. And of course we had afternoon tea - scones, jam and cream.

Tomorrow we start the walk from Port Gate to Chesters.  We're happy, healthy and having fun!
